Do Owls and their mysterious nightlife intrigue you? Accompany the professional bird ringers as they carry out their research and study of Owls in the deep forests of Sweden. This is your opportunity to meet the great Ural Owls (Strix uralensis) on a close encounter in broad daylight!

Experience the space, solitude and silence of this beautiful Swedish countryside. Svartadalen in Vastmanland is a unique place, with a rich natural and cultural heritage in the heart of Sweden. Historically a farming area, it still possesses a wealth of forests, lakes, hay meadows and open wetlands.

You are transported by bus first and then walk for a short distance. Part of the bird ringer's work is to ring the adult females, who hatch and aggressively guard their young until they are old enough to fend for themselves. You will get the chance to feel how soft the downy fledglings are. However, the Ural Owl demand respect as its name implies. You have to keep a proper distance from the nest, as Ural Owls can be quite aggressive if annoyed. The experienced ringers always wear protective clothing and helmets whilst working with the birds.

The main focus of these tours are on owls. But after some extensive Owl watching there will be a culinary break. Smoked fish, fine cured hams, wholesome tasty breads and mouth watering cheeses will be served on a nice spot in the forest for a real taste adventure.
This safari is well suited for those with a general interest in Nature, but also for those who have a specialist interest and for photographers. No previous knowledge is necessary.
Tawny Owl, Pygmy Owl and sometimes Tengmalm's Owl might be seen on the Safari.
