Silver mine
Photo: Sala Silvergruva

Come and experience the mysterious underground world of the Sala Silvermine and stay in the mine's hostel. Peer into the depths of the Queen Christina main shaft, feel the cold, the humidity, and experience the utter darkness. Listen to the stories of the history of the Silvermine, find out about the great importance of silver and how miners toiled day after day to fill the coffers of the land. It's an unforgettable experience!

Centrally located on the mining area, you will find the mine's own hostel, originally built as a rooming house for unmarried men around 1920. The attractive building, called Marketenteriet (The Canteen), has 15 double rooms, all with space for an extra rollaway. The hostel maintains a simple standard with a shared toilet and shower in the hallway. Come stay in a beautiful and rustic environment, with everything the mine offers just outside your door.

Important to know:
A Guided Tour in the Mine can take between 30 Minutes and 2 Hours depending on the Tour alternative chosen. Down in the Mine we make our way, using the stairways through old Mine tunnels. The temperature in the Mine is approximately between +2 to +5 C all year round; it is also fairly damp and a little dirty. We recommend warm suitable clothing. Participants use the waterproof capes and Wellington boots provided by the Mine.
